Season Opener Anderson Motor Speedway - See's Action packed event

The Showdown Series kicked off their inaugural season at Anderson Motor Speedway this weekend. Friday night February 27 kicked off the season opener with action packed events. Bandoleros hit the track with six (6) cars registered seeing a great heat race and feature. The twenty (20) lap feature took the green seeing Jackson Jones get out into the lead. Coming off turn 2 about halfway through the feature Jones would spin and bring out the yellow. Jones would come back to win the feature.

The Legend cars hit the track for their season opener event as well with twenty-two entries. The green flag dropped on the feature with Jacob Staten leading the field to the green by earning the pole through his heat race. On lap one the caution would come out for Carson Youngblood making contact with the wall under the flagstand in the opening. It would end Youngblood's night with the contact ripping the whole right side of the car off by the time he stopped at the top of turn one. That yellow would also see Cole Dasenbrock, and Mitchell Thompson go to the hot pit with issues. Dasenbrock nor Thompson would return to competition with mechanical failures. The green flag would come back on the restart and the field would battle all the way to the checkered flag. Dylan Bongiovanni would be running third with about five laps to go and have a mechanical issue. Bongiovanni would manage to clear the track exit in turn three and not bring out a yellow. Staten would battle Sam Cornman all the way to the finish and win the feature. Edison Carter and Mitchell Flater would get together battling for fourth and bring out the yellow after only Staten and Cornman would take the checkered.

Saturday afternoon February 28 would be Round 2 of series competition. Legends would be the first class of the day seeing qualifying happening in the second round of practice. Mitchell Thompson would collect fast time. Heat races were lined up with a three car inversion drawn in the drivers meeting. Heat race action would see Cornman, Pate, and Staten pick up victories. Cornman would get the pole for the feature as the green flag would fly for the feature. The yellow would come out on lap one seeing a three car pile up in turn three involving Barrett, Andersen, and Cameron. Barrett would be the only car to restart from the incident. The next yellow would involve the leader Sam Cornman making contact with Thompson and spinning solo. Cornman would go to the tail of the field and so would Thompson as he would go to the work area. Pate and Staten would bring the field back to a green until the next yellow would fly when Hellams would make contact with Johnson in turn one. Hellams would be unable to restart the race. The fourth yellow of the race would see the top three cars get together in turn three. Kibbe would make contact with Staten which would get into Thompson causing all three cars to go to the tail of the field. The fifth and final yellow would come out with just a few laps remaining when Kibbe and Pendley would get together in turn one. This would set up the final restart with Cornman, Staten, and Thompson all coming from the tail to choose where they would want to be to set up for a final battle with Pate and Dasenbrock to the finish. Sam Cornman would come out on top by a last lap pass in turn three to collect the checkered flag.

Bandoleros would take to the track seeing Clapp have issues with a practice crash and not making qualifying. Carson Sherman would collect fast time in qualifying. The heat race invert of three seeing Souza on the pole for the heat. Sherman and Jones would race hard in the six lap heat seeing Sherman win the heat to put himself on the pole for the feature. The twenty lap feature would see one yellow flag when Clapp would get side-ways and make contact with the inside wall in turn four. He would pit and remove the front nose from the contact and return to the race. Sherman would make contact with the wall off turn 2 and retire from the race. Jackson Jones would go on to win the feature event getting his second win of the weekend.
